it's fantasy-fiction february!

Say February and, whether you observe the holiday or not, you probably can’t help thinking of Valentine’s Day.  Maybe you swoon at the sight of candy hearts and roses, weep at the happily-ever-after of your favorite rom-com, and wistfully dream of the day you’ll meet The One.  Or perhaps you thank your lucky stars that you already have.  Then again, you might be more prone to lose your lunch if you spy one more doe-eyed cartoon couple on a sickeningly sweet card, the kind plastered in red and pink hearts with a sentiment gooier than whatever lurks beneath the chocolate coatings inside a ribbon-tied box of cloying confections.

Either way, February 14th is coming, and love, as they say, is in the air. Romantic love is certainly worthy of celebration. While I count myself fortunate to journey through life with my true other half, I am also thankful for the other types of love that have made my heart whole: my mom, my dogs, my friends, and a lifelong obsession with books, both reading and writing them.

It’s been almost four years since I lost my mom, but I still think of her every day; I still honor her memory in any way I can. Most recently I designed a whimsical keepsake box for items she’d created. (Read more about it here.) The box was a labor of love, a posthumous Valentine of sorts for the woman who had shaped my life in more ways than she ever knew, ways that began long before the first book she ever read to me, before the heaps of them she encouraged me to accumulate and relish. Had it not been for her, had it not been for my dogs—Maisie Moon, in particular, the clever girl who inspired our heroine’s canine sidekick—The Sylver Platter series may have never tickled my imagination.

So, in honor of these loves—of all kinds of love, including the love of reading so many of us have in common—I am offering the first Sylver Platter novel at a limited-time sale price of $2.99 (retail: $6.99) and joining a host of other writers to bring terrific bargains to fantasy book lovers everywhere. Please support independent authors like myself and those participating in this special promotion by sending the link to this post to other fantasy and young-adult-novel enthusiasts. Your purchases, reviews, and recommendations are always appreciated.

Happy February to you all…and to everyone with whom you’d gladly share a sugary-sweet serving of truffles and bonbons and, of course, those iconic candy hearts.
