Dogs are wonderful beings! They remind us to enjoy simple things, like going for a walk or eating a favorite meal. The Sun Orbits My Dog: Adventures of a Thrice-Smitten Dog Parent depicts a dog lover's exciting and memorable experiences with three rescue dogs - Jake, Sadie, and Georgiana. J.B. Fitzgerald relates the lovely moments and events she had with her canine companions, including trips to the park, welcoming a new cat sibling, "doggie bath" times, "dress-up-the-dog" days, visits from bunnies and ducks, muddy explorations, and more. Though some moments were heartbreaking and hard to endure, the author wouldn't have it any other way. Prepare to laugh, cry, and smile with satisfaction as you follow Fitzgerald's heartwarming stories about her fur babies.

Hilarious, playful, and outright adorable, The Sun Orbits My Dog delivers exactly what I imagine a book about dogs would and much more. It includes cute dog pictures and fun invented words like dogloon and barkitude. The book has an instantly uplifting effect that keeps you floating every time you remember it. One of my favorite parts is a scene in which two dog parents try to get Sadie into position for a Christmas family portrait but fail hilariously and laugh through the whole process. The book also captures some emotional moments that remind every dog lover to value every little moment they have with their dogs. J.B. Fitzgerald uses her artistic prowess to deliver beautiful, poetic writing that befits such angelic, joyful creatures as dogs. This is indeed a fantastic and wholesome read that every dog lover would not only enjoy themselves but also recommended to other dog lovers.

The Sun Orbits My Dog: Adventures of a Thrice-Smitten Dog Parent is a work of non-fiction in the animal fiction subgenre. It is suitable for the general reading audience and was penned by author J.B. Fitzgerald. The book follows the life story of three dogs adopted by the author from their early histories to their rescue by different animal welfare groups around the USA to their recovery from their early life traumas. Now healthy, energetic, and ready to be loved by humans again, the dogs are adopted by the author and her family who give them the forever home that they deserve.

As an avid lover of all animals cute and furry, it would have been easy for this book to get a good review from me with very little effort indeed, but there is an almost poetic level of discussion within these pages on dogs, what they mean to us, and what we mean to them that beautifully articulates a bond that a lot of people don’t understand. Author J.B. Fitzgerald’s warmth and affection for these companions can be felt in every sentence of this book as the author tells the stories of the three dogs in an inspiring style that allows a seamless transition from heartbreaking to heartwarming. If ever there was a literary advocate for adopting a dog from your local shelter it is The Sun Orbits My Dog, which dives into the emotional rollercoaster that is the life of a rescue dog. This book wonderfully highlights to the reader that in a cynical world there will always be a dog out there willing to love us if we’re willing to love them back.

The Sun Orbits My Dog: Adventures of a Thrice-Smitten Dog Parent by J.B. Fitzgerald is a non-fiction animal book that would appeal most to a diverse audience of adults and young adult dog lovers. Jake, Sadie, and Georgiana are three dogs that went through awful life circumstances including abuse, abandonment, and failed adoptions. Through the dedication of three different animal rescue organizations they each got a fresh start and a better life. Are you ready for three heartwarming rescue tales?

The Sun Orbits My Dog by J.B. Fitzgerald is a well-written book with a visually appealing cover. I liked how each of the three dog rescues took place in different states because each story was separate from the others. The way the author described the circumstances of each dog had me longing to adopt them myself to give them the family each one desperately needed. I could not help but be truly relieved at the new life each rescue organization was able to provide. The author did an amazing job of mixing humor and photographs into the book to add both levity and insight into the rescue situations. I enjoyed the way the author shared the mishaps that occurred along the way and did not try to make it seem as if each dog was rescued and then magically lived happily ever after but instead showed the effort it took to get each dog to its happy life. I found this book to be inspiring as after reading it I feel that I would like to be a part of a rescue organization as either a volunteer or as an adopter!

Who can resist those faces? I can't stop smiling!

Finally, a dog memoir that is really about the dogs - their adventures, their transformations, their personalities.   Anyone who has opened their heart to a rescue animal will relate to the overwhelming sense of joy as Jake, Sadie, and Georgiana learn to trust people again. Fitzgerald shares so many stories - endearing, poignant, and hilarious. The writing is witty and intelligent, often with tongue in cheek. I found myself laughing out loud at the pups' escapades. I also loved the photos which allowed me to "meet" each of these incredible, gentle souls. Reading their stories reminded me of the dogs I've adopted over the years. And it made me want to continue to seek out rescue dogs, which I think, is rather the author's point. There are so many animals in shelters or foster care that are longing for a forever home. This illustrated memoir is a treasure for dog parents and anyone who wants to learn more about the journey to becoming a rescue dog parent.
