THE DOGS HAVE ARRIVED

Northwest Author Marks National Rescue Dog Day with Illustrated Memoir

BELLINGHAM, WA, May 17, 2022 - Coinciding with National Rescue Dog Day, May 20, 2022, author and photographer J.B. Fitzgerald introduces the fully illustrated, digital edition of The Sun Orbits My Dog: Adventures of a Thrice-Smitten Dog Parent.  The memoir features more than 130 photographs interspersed among anecdotes spanning twenty years of dog-parenting life.  Fitzgerald regales fellow dog lovers with the merriment, the hardships, and the comical mishaps she faced while nurturing three very different rescues through their unique challenges and watching them grow into happy and loving companions.

“As I delved deeper into the stories of my own dogs,” Fitzgerald said, “I realized that, despite the individual quirks and histories of our companions, we, as dog parents, share some universal experiences.  My dogs have given me so much.  If their trials inspire hope, if their antics evoke laughter from my readers and wonderful memories of their own furry friends, then my three have bestowed their incredible gifts on others too.  To give, after all, is the nature of every good dog.”

The author’s website describes the book as, “A tribute to rescued dogs everywhere and the people who can’t live without them.”

Fitzgerald’s mission is to encourage dog lovers to adopt from shelters and rescue organizations, urging them to open their hearts to these special animals, whether they’re seeking a first dog or have suffered the loss of a beloved companion.  “Every dog out there deserves a chance at a happy home.  Rescuing another one doesn’t mean you’ve forgotten, doesn’t mean you’ve stopped loving the one you’ve lost.  It only means you’ve summoned the courage to make the world a better place for a homeless animal in need.  Dogs are nature’s bandages, covering our wounds, helping them to heal.  Before long, the scar starts to fade and it hits you that you needed that new dog as much as he needed you.”

Formerly a journalist and freelance cartoonist, Fitzgerald had resided in cities from the Mid-Atlantic region to the American Southwest before settling in Washington State.  She has called the Pacific Northwest home for nearly two decades, hailing the region as “an unparalleled utopia for the adventurous dog”.  In addition to her memoirs, Fitzgerald’s fictional works also frequently celebrate the incomparable bonds between humans and their canine companions.  Learn more about the author and The Sun Orbits My Dog at www.jbfitzgeraldbooks.com.

National Rescue Dog Day was founded in 2018 by Lisa Wiehebrink to increase awareness of the millions of adoptable dogs in U.S. shelters waiting for the individuals or families willing to love them forever.  Read more at www.nationalrescuedogday.com.
