elves, elves, everywhere

This famished elf was spotted in our yard only yesterday and appeared infinitely grateful for the ongoing gift of refreshments.

As the rolling fogs hover and daylight dwindles, as the frigid air sinks its teeth into flesh and bone, as would-be assassins grow more ruthless in their pursuits, frantic bodies rush about in search of what they require to survive the season. It is, in fact, their busiest time of year. You may not always see them. Most are elusive by nature, scampering, racing, leaping, even soaring into the sky to avoid detection. But Santa's elves are everywhere, cloaked in many familiar shapes and sizes--their pointy ears subtly hinting at their identities beneath furry disguises, the twinkle in their eyes glinting in the light as feathers flap before them.

Cookies and milk are all well and fine for the big guy (though his personal physician might heartily disagree), yet it's his helpers who most need our help. Readily available high-protein snacks, as well as clean water, can make the difference between life and death to the Acquisition and Reconnaissance Elves bravely holding their posts, year round, in the great outdoors. To aid them through these winter months, please leave seed, nuts, suet, or other safe, healthy snacks for our crafty little friends. Sure as Christmas inches ever nearer, cold and hungry elves are lurking right outside your door.
